First Date

Drake had his very first "date" this past Saturday night. He took a young lady names Taylor to the movies. They (we) saw "Monsters vs. Aliens" at the Weatherford movie theatre.

He had wanted to take her to the movies for her birthday. I told him that would be OK with us as long as we all went together. I don't think they are old enough to go alone to the movies yet. He did have to ask her parents permission.

I asked him at the dinner table, the night before he was going to call her parents, if he wanted to practice what he was going to say to them. He looked at me and said that he had already practiced and knew what he was going to say. Can you believe that? He already practiced! Too sweet!

When he did call her house, he asked to speak to Mr. X. He introduced himself and asked if it would be OK if he took his daughter, Taylor, to the movies on Saturday night. Of course, her parents knew the call was coming so their answer was quick.

We went to her house to pick her up and Drake went to the door by himself. Her parents came out to the car and we visited for a few minutes. They are really nice people and we like them a lot.

Taylor was very sweet and talkative. She and Drake didn't act shy around each other at all. She wasn't shy around us either. They listened to their ipods and talked about music.

Drake needs to work on the whole holding doors and walking next to your date things but over all it was a good first date. I was proud of him.
